Extinction Rebellion PDX to Launch “Garden Direct Action"
Demanding Urgent Government Response to Climate Crisis, and Immediate Halt to Zenith Oil Trains:
We Need Your Help!
From Monday April, April 15 through Earth Day, April 22, Extinction Rebellion is taking action on the streets of cities all over the world to demand that governments take necessary action on the global Climate and Ecological Emergency. The newly launched Portland Chapter of Extinction Rebellion, will take part through a “Garden Direct Action” demanding that our government halt plans of Zenith Energy to double the traffic of oil trains carrying Canadian tar sands oil through Portland.
This will be the first local action in support of the Extinction Rebellion US long term strategy, which calls aims to “inspire and be part of instigating a national, coordinated economic and government disruption on an unprecedented scale that lasts indefinitely, until the government feels forced to concede to the four XR US demands.”
Without giving away too much, we can say that the action will be launched this coming weekend, and will demand urgent action on climate change from our government, particularly the City of Portland, Multnomah County, and the State of Oregon, starting with the obvious: shutdown of Zenith Energy tar sands oil exports.
Want to join us? We’re looking for people to take part in building the rebellion, and people to support our actions. Here’s what you can do:
- Stockpile plants, seeds, soil, gardening tools, organic fertilizer, trees, and prepare to plant this weekend.
- Follow us on Facebook, for updates on the action.
- Contribute to our action fund, through Climate Direct Action.
